Organic solvents are one of the main components of lithium-ion battery electrolytes, which are organic compound-based liquids that serve to dissolve lithium salts and allow lithium ions to move freely between the anode and cathode.

The main function of organic solvents is to effectively dissolve lithium salts to increase ionic conductivity and create an environment for lithium ions to move quickly and efficiently in the electrolyte.

At present, the electrolyte of lithium-ion secondary batteries is mainly composed of appropriate formulations of cyclic carbonate (EC, PC) and linear carbonate (DMC, DEC, EMC) solvents, which are selected based on the ionic conductivity, electrochemical stability, and interaction with the electrode of the battery.

In this column, we will discuss solvent functions and features, the latest technology trends, and market outlook.
