As Germany, Britain, and France recently announced the policies banning the sales of internal combustion engine-equipped vehicles, following Norway and the Netherlands, policies against the sales of internal combustion engines are spreading across the Europe. As a result, environmentally friendly vehicles are expected to completely replace the predecessor in Europe by 2030 ~2040. 

 

Also, China, which has been leading the electric vehicle market with the policy guaranteeing subsidies for the production of electric vehicles, is committed to implementing a new policy, NEV (New Energy Vehicle) Credit.  According to the new policy, the auto makers which produce more than 50,000 units a year should meet an 10% credit requirement. 

 

In the U.S., the auto makers have realized that the fuel efficiency improvement alone wouldn’t be sufficient to satisfy the CAFE standards, and they have to increase the share of electric vehicles in their line-up.

 

The Japanese and Korean governments will join strengthening policies and support for environmentally friendly vehicles, and India is moving toward 100% electric vehicles by 2030. 

 

Complying with these global requirements and for industrial sustainability, auto makers are preparing to promote the sales of electric vehicles further. 

 

   The growth of the electric vehicle market will inevitably increase battery demand. Accordingly, the current global battery makers have been expanding their production capacity, and various European, Chinese, and Japanese makers are expected to launch battery business for electric vehicles.

 

   In particular, the Europe is planning to establish more than two Giga Factories, and small- and medium-sized Chinese battery makers have been upgrading their capacity to meet the national annual production capacity requirement of 8 GWh laid out by the Chinese government.
