<2022> Global Outlook for Expansion of LIB Production Lines (~2030)
Recently we’re
hearing news about expansion plans of production capacity from secondary
battery companies almost everyday.
LG Energy
Solution has already announced three more expansion plans this year (GM joint-venture
factory, Arizona cylindrical-type production plant, and Stellantis join-venture
factory). SK On and Samsung SDI also recently announced that they will build
joint-venture factories in Turkey and the U.S. respectively. We are hearing more
news of expansion plans than ever before. On top of that, there are lots of news
about growth of secondary battery makers with various government support and
also about internalization of secondary battery production by automakers.
Such news of
expansion of secondary battery production means that an era of electric
vehicles is drawing near. It is not easy, however, to predict how much the
market will grow in the near future until the impact of COVID-19 throughout the
industry and the shortage of automotive semiconductor products triggered by
COVID-19 are eased.
This report provides
summary of the expansion plans of secondary battery manufacturers in Korea and
other countries so that readers can understand them at a glance. It presents introduction
and current status of 86 secondary battery manufacturers in and outside of
Korea. It also presents information about research trend and production status
of secondary batteries in major automobile manufacturers. In addition, it
summarizes trend of government policy to expand capabilities of secondary
battery industry in each country.
The supply
outlook for secondary batteries was summarized by each company, country, and
battery type. The forecast of supply and demand of secondary batteries was made
in accordance with various scenarios. It is also providing overall information
of production capacity of each secondary battery company in detail through data
in the appendix.
We hope this
report will be helpful to those in the secondary battery industry who purchase
this report.
